New Concerts
It looks like the 40th anniversary of the infamous 1969 Woodstock concert will go uncelebrated.
Michael Lang is one of the partners who staged the ‘69 concert and has been the public face of Woodstock in the 40 years since. Lang initially wanted to stage a free concert in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park to coincide with the Woodstock anniversary August 15-18. But the global recession made it difficult to obtain sponsors to cover the $8-10 million cost.
As the deadline passed, Lang then hoped to stage an anniversary concert in conjunction with Climate Week at the end of September. But that didn’t work out either, so it looks like there will be no Woodstock concert in 2009. Perhaps they can get their act together by the 50th anniversary in 2019.
